Bauchi Govt to investigate financial activities of Sa’adu Zungur University Gadau

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state has indicated that the a committee will soon be put in place to probe the financial transactions of the state owned Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), Gadau.

Bala Mohammed of made this known shortly after receiving the report of the visitation panel of the University under the chairpersonship of Professor Gambo Laraba Abdullahi at the EXCO chamber of the government house on Tuesday.

According to the governor, an audit committee would be set up to look into the generation and management of public funds by the management of Sa’adu Zungur University.

Bala Mohammed who regretted that the management of the university has assumed an autonomous status despite been established and funded by the Bauchi tax payers money, said auditing the institution’s financial dealings will ensure greater accountability and transparency in its management.

Mohammed reiterated the commitment of his administration towards making sure that tat the university is effectively and efficiently managed in order to attain world-class standard.

Governor Mohammed who unveiled plans to restrengthen the university’s governing board for effective oversight and management, also announced the relief from office, the bursar of the university.

Earlier speaking, the Chairperson of the visitation panel, Professor Gambo Laraba Abdullahi, observed that the management of the university had inherited challenges spanning over a decade which could not be addressed easily.

According to Professor Abdullahi, the panel’s report identified several areas of concern, including the need for improved accountability and transparency in managing the finances of the university.

Our Correspondent gathered that weeks ago, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) SAZU branch had blamed the management of the university over alleged foot-dragging in the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed to address lingering issues in the university after an industrial action last year.
