Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state revealed on Thursday that several letters written by his government to the federal government seeking interventions on deserving matters, such as the security and governance had not been attended to.
According to him, the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led federal government is sidelining the states governed by the opposition in terms of interventions, especially on security and governance.
Speaking during the Executive Council meeting at the EXCO chamber of the government house Bauchi on Thursday, the Governor said his administration had written a lot of letters to the FG concerning deserving issues such as security and governance but to no avail.
“We have written a lot of letters to the federal government, deserving issues that we need intervention, on security and on governance, we are not listened to, maybe because we are in the opposition, other states are getting a lot of money”, he said.
“I am crying loud because this is unfair, but that’s what we have been going through, the federal government is not listening to the opposition governor’s or government and this is very unfair”, he insisted.
Bala Mohammed who is the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum said that the states governed by the opposition also deserve intervention like their counterpart in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Governor who reasoned that the opposition should also benefit from FG’s intervention equally, lamented that politics is been played around, such that even the intervention that is required to bring good governance, the opposition are not getting.
“So we have no option other than to utilize the little resources that we have, we don’t have to start crying hues or apportioning blames, let them take their billions, but certainly we can do with the little we have”, the governor said.
“I want our citizens, the people of Bauchi to understand, we don’t have a luxury or even consideration of being assisted with resources other than what we are getting from the federation account, the statutory allocation, and from the development partners and we are using this very well”, he disclosed.
Governor Mohammed who tasked his cabinet to work hard and do their best, said it doesn’t matter how much money an administrator got but how well it is put to usage.
While advising the commissioners to put aside some of the programmes emanating from the MDAs, said he will not approve unnecessary proposals that would impact positively in the lives of the people of Bauchi state.
“I don’t want to disappoint any commissioner by saying “not approved” but certainly when it becomes too much as if there is money that is inexhaustible I may have to do that”, he stated.
