FTH Gombe stablishes Cancer Treatment Centre, reiterates commitment to staff training

Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Gombe, Dr Yusuf Abdullahi has announced the establishment of a cancer treatment centre within the hospital facility.
The CMD while speaking to newsmen in his office on Thursday, further disclosed that the hospital will commence laser surgeries in due course.
Abdullahi who was recently reappointed as CMD the second time by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, said the hospital is procuring modern equipment for laser surgeries.
According to him, laser surgery is the type of surgery that uses special light beams instead of instruments to perform surgical operations.
Dr. Abdullahi who added that the hospital is also procuring equipment for treatment of cancer, stressed that the idea is aimed at bringing relief to patients who currently have to travel to distant locations like Lagos, Sokoto, Maiduguri, or Abuja for medical attention.
The CMD while noting that cancer is getting more prevalent, requiring the hospital to bring succour to patients, assured that the hospital has started procuring bigger equipment for its treatment.
He said that the hospital under his watch will ensure transition to solar energy within the year to reduce dependence on generators and lowering electricity costs.
He pledged to also prioritise staff training and development, considering the importance of a skilled and efficient workforce in delivering quality healthcare services.
