Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi has yesterday presented three operational vehicles to the state’s own Road Traffic Agency (BAROTA) at the government house Bauchi.
The governor while handing over the operational vehicles to the BAROTA, explained that the provision of the working tools is a demonstration of his administration’s commitment to enhancing the state’s infrastructure and services.
“Before I cut the tape, it is my honor and privilege to, on behalf of myself, the government and people of Bauchi state present these equipments, a Slasher, a towing van and an ambulance to our brand new BAROTA who have just taken off and are doing very well in terms of clearing our pathways, our roads”, he said.
Senator Mohammed added, “we have seen them everywhere as if they are in thousands, even though they are very small in number”.
The Governor who however, observed that it is not the number that matters but the amount of commitment, commended the DG of the Agency, retired General Tijjani Baba Gamawa for piloting the affairs of the Agency effectively.
“He has been very active with his men and officers and I am very happy with their performances so far. I have followed our main road to Azare where we have so much incumbrances and encroachment around Soro, they are no longer there, at least sanity has been brought”, he said.
The governor who also expressed delight over what the BAROTA has done along Ningi road, Durum and the southeastern part of the state, called for its sustainability.
“We are going to do more to ensure that there is sanity and respect for each other. Their job is not to brutalize or persecute the business men who are innocent because they have not been sensitized, and I am happy they are doing it with persuasion”, the Governor said.
Governor Mohammed who urged orderliness in the application of penalties to traffic offenders, cautioned that it should not be too much.
“I heard that the penalties are becoming too much. I have my ears to the ground, the union didn’t complain to me but I am part and parcel of them, they should be seen to have disobeyed the law before they are charged”, he stated.
The Governor appreciated BAROTA’s commitment, promising continued support to enable them succeed in discharging its constitutional mandate.
He said by providing the agency with the necessary equipment, the personnel would work effectively and efficiently in clearing road obstructions, reduce encroachments, and promote a smoother traffic flow.
