Samuel Luka, Bauchi
The Speaker of the Bauchi state house of assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Sulaiman has expressed optimisms that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will emerge as the majority in the forthcoming general elections.
Rt. Hon. Sulaiman who is also the Chairman, Conference of Nigerian speakers of houses of assembly, pointed out that, due to the governor’s good leadership qualities, some of the APC lawmakers defected to the PDP which increased their number from eight to fifteen out of the 31 members.
According to him, “by the grace of God, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state will not win the contest alone but all the party’s flag-bearers are going to emerge victorious at the end of the February and March general elections”.
The speaker who was speaking during the Governor’s tour in Jama’are local government area of the state on Tuesday, said Governor Bala Mohammed has done tremendously to warrant been re-elected.
“There’s something very important that non of the speakers have pointed out since the commencement of this campaign tour. They have been saying what they know about the Governor and what he has done for the people”, he said.
Speaker Abubakar said when Governor Bala Mohammed came on board, the PDP had only eight members of the house of assembly out of the total number of 31.
“The ruling PDP had only eight seats in the house, I myself was not in the PDP, but because of his good leadership style of ensuring justice and fairness, respect for the people, leadership of inclusivity, today the PDP has 15 members, the opposition has only one member ahead of us”, the speaker boasted.
“I trust in God that before the end of this administration, the PDP is going to be the majority in the Bauchi state assembly due to the leadership style of the Governor who has been carrying everybody along in the affairs of governance”, he added
The speaker enjoined the electorates in the state to use their votes wisely by electing all the PDP candidates from top to bottom.
Addressing thousands of supporters in Jama’are town, Governor Bala Mohammed said he was deeply touch and fulfilled by the love shown to him, adding that Jama’are people should ensure that their votes goes to the presidential candidate of the party, himself and all other candidates of the party in the upcoming general elections.
“Honestly, on behalf of myself and our tomorrow’s President, God willing, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, senatorial, Reps and house of assembly candidates, we have nothing to say than to thank God for the love you have shown us”, he said.
“You have been going along with us despite the harsh weather, the dust, this love and support can never be estimated. You, the people of Jama’are have been left behind, you have been neglected for so long perhaps due to your patience but it is now time that you should be given equal treatment with the rest of the people of Bauchi”, the Governor stated.
Governor Bala who blamed lack of government presence in the local government on poor representation by their law makers, said if given the opportunity in 2023, the road project contract awarded in the local government area would be carried out.
“You don’t have Senator, you don’t have house of representatives member, you don’t have members in the house of assembly, they are all interested in themselves”, he said.
The Governor urged the people of Jama’are to vote for all the candidates of the PDP as their representatives both at the state and national levels including Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as president and himself as Governor in order to reap the dividends of democracy.
