Maiduguri Varsity Hospital Hosts Team of Neurosurgeon and urologist from Dubai to a workshop

The University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) has hosted experts in neurology and urology from a Dubai-based Fakeeh University Hospital to a workshop aimed at strengthening synergy in medical advances across various medical fields.
The medical experts comprising of Urologist and Neurosurgeon from Fakeeh University Hospital Dubai were at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital for workshop on “advances in kidney diseases and neurosurgical management”.
The workshop organised by the UMTH in collaboration with Fakeeh University Hospital Dubai, accords the two institutions the opportunity to interact and chat the way forward on these medical advances.
According to a press statement from the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, the workshop was against the backdrop of high prevalence of kidney diseases mostly in Borno and Yobe states North East Nigeria where even children now suffer from the disease.
The Chief Medical Director UMTH Professor Ahmed Ahidjo in his remarks disclosed that UMTH is collaborating with Fakeeh University Hospital Dubai in area of Neurosurgeon science to improve skills of its personnel as UMTH has built a hundred and fifty bed capacity stroke centre, adding that the relationship between the two hospitals will be highly beneficial.
“A renown and globally trained consultant Urologist surgeon from Fakeeh University Hospital Dubai, Dr Omer Mohammed Al-Derwish spoke on “overview of advances in urology”, hopes for a better partnership between the two institutions”, the statement said.
It stated that the neurosurgeon commended the leadership of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital for its giant stride in infrastructural development and state- of- the -art- health facilities on ground.
