The Senator representing Bauchi South senatorial district at the national assembly, Sen. Shehu Buba Umar has in partnership with a Non-governmental organization known as Reality Youth for Good Leadership and Support Initiative to train 250 youth on shoe making and maintenance in Bauchi state.
The Executive Director of the organisation, Mr Mohammed Dahiru disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Bauchi on Saturday.
According to him, all plans to embark on the three days empowerment programme of the unemployed youth had been finalized.
He added that the date for the commencement of the training will soon be made known after the selection of the beneficiaries had been concluded.
According to him, the Senator has given the NGO the green light to go ahead with the training and has agreed to support it financially.
Mohammed Dahiru said that the gesture was to relieve some of the burdens occasioned by the present economic hardship on the selected trainees and make them self-reliant as well as employers of labour.
He explained that all the trainees would be presented with shoe maintenance kits to ease their trade.
“The Senator has agreed to partner with us to sponsor the training and said that we should go ahead with it”, Dahiru disclosed.
“The essence of the training is to empower the beneficiaries with the skill so as to be able to fend for themselves and even become employers of labour.
“They will be effectively trained and at the same time, they will be given shoe maintenance kits to also ease their trade,” he said.
The Executive Director also added that the beneficiaries would be selected across the Bauchi South Senatorial District of Bauchi, Alkaleri, Kirfi, Dass, Toro, Tafawa Balewa, and Bogoro Local Government Areas.
He said that the NGO’s aims is to empower Nigeria youth, promote good governance, encourage community engagement and awareness campaigns and help in building leadership skills.
While explaining that community leaders and other political stakeholders would play a pivotal role in selecting the beneficiaries in the district, he appealed to governments at all levels and other well meaning Nigerians to take up the task of empowering the less privileged.
