The Bauchi state Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has cautioned members of the public against accepting awards from media organizations without prior approval from the union.
The Union which made this known in a recent press statement e-signed by the Council’s secretary, Isah Garba Gadau, dissociated Itself from what it described as “Illegitimate Awards”.
“The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council, has noted with concern how some people are busy trying to organize an award ceremony through dubious means which NUJ wishes to dissociate itself from the presentation of awards to suspecting members of the public and organisations by some newspapers”, the press statement further stated.
“We therefore, urge those who received such kinds of awards to note that they were not recognized, neither approved by the NUJ”, the statement explained.
The NUJ advised the public to be cautious of such unauthorized events and to verify the authenticity of any awards or recognitions with the State Council of the NUJ before accepting or publicizing them.
Gadau said that the Bauchi State Council of the NUJ has already informed security agencies to assist in fishing out those organizing such illegal awards for necessary prosecution.
