Bauchi NUJ urges govt to consider committed media casual workers for employment

The Bauchi state Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has appealed to the state government to consider committed casual workers rendering services at the various state owned Media organizations for employment in order to ensure optimal service delivery.
Comrade Umar Sa’idu, Bauchi state chapter Chairman of the NUJ made the appeal yesterday, when he received the state commissioner of information and communication Alhaji Usman Shehu Usman on a familiarization visit to the state council.
According to him, there are significant number of casual staff that are doing very well in carrying out their assigned duties at the state owned Media organizations, hence the need to reciprocate such performances by given them a permanent appointment in the state civil service.
Umar Sa’id explained that such gesture will motivate the casual staff to do more, and encourage others to join the system.
He also advised state government to fasten the process of digital switch over at the state owned television station BATV to suits the current global trend of transmission.
The Bauchi NUJ chairman who commended the efforts of the commissioner to bringing unity and understanding among the Media organizations in the state said, NUJ is ready to support the ministry to succeed.
Speaking earlier, the information Commissioner, Alhaji Usman Shehu Usman said, they were at the NUJ for familiarization visit, in order to straighten the synergy between his ministry and the NUJ.
The commissioner who appreciated the cordial working relationship between the government and members of NUJ in the state, assured of his ministry’s support to the union to enable it discharge its duties effectively.
