Greetings on this significant day in the history of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Jigawa State Council, as we prepare to elect new leaders who will steer the affairs of our noble union into the future.

As we all know, the NUJ was established on the 15th of March, 1955, during Nigeria’s struggle for independence from colonial rule. Since then, the union has remained a beacon of press freedom and professional advancement for journalists across the country.

To the electoral committee, wise men say, “when the barber’s blade reaches the front of the head, the cut must be done with care.” After months of planning, it is now your responsibility to ensure that today’s exercise strictly follows the union’s constitution. Any deviation may compromise your integrity and the credibility of this important process.

To the voters, I urge you to understand that elections are not a do-or-die affair. We are all brothers and sisters in this profession. Everyone who casts their vote should return to their office and patiently await the results in peace.

To the candidates, since the beginning of this race, you have all shown commitment. May Allah grant success to the winners. And to those who may not emerge victorious this time, may He reward your efforts with something even better.
Let us all display decorum and exemplary conduct, for our profession demands constant interaction with the public. We must be role models in the state and across the country.

I wish all our national delegates a safe return to their various destinations, just as they arrived safely in Dutse.

May Allah grant us a peaceful and successful election.

Best wishes to all.
