Bauchi Humanitarian Affairs ministry collaborating stakeholders to entrench sustainable fire safety – commissioner

The Bauchi state Commissioner, ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajiya Hajara Yakubu Wanka has disclosed that the Ministry had recently started collaborating with all relevant fire service stakeholders in the state to entrench sustainable fire safety and emergency response.

Hajiya Wanka made this known while speaking at the opening ceremony of the 4th Annual Conference of Fire Service Directors from across Nigeria, hosted by the Bauchi government in the state yesterday.

She emphasized that fire prevention is a humanitarian action, saying, “each averted disaster preserves families, economies, and futures”.

“We must integrate fire safety into broader disaster risk reduction strategies, ensuring synergy with NEMA, SEMA, and community-based structure”, the commissioner added.

She commended the heroic and courageous way and manner the fire service operates, praying that the conference renew their collective determination to protect the nation.

The commissioner expressed gratitude to Governor Bala Mohammed for hosting the event and his continued support for initiatives that brings succour and ease of life to people of Bauchi and beyond.

She described the Conference of the Fire Service Directors/Chiefs as an important platform for strengthening of collective resilience against disasters.

Hajara Yakubu Wanka applauded the Fire Service for its relentless efforts, evidenced by improved response times, community sensitization programs, and the adoption of modern firefighting technologies in Bauchi State and across the Nation.

On her part, the chairperson, Association of States Fire Service Chiefs and Directors, Mrs Margaret A. Adeseye said the annual national conference of the Fire Service Chiefs and Directors was aimed at improving efficiency and effectiveness of the operatives, both at the federal and state levels through sharing of experience and knowledge.

The opening ceremony featured award presentations by the Association to some notable personalities in the State that included the State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed.

Our Correspondent gathered that the three-day conference, which began on Tuesday, aims to enhance fire safety and disaster management in the country.
