According to her, one of the ways to prevent rainstorm, flooding, erosion and other environmental hazards is to plant trees.
“We celebrate world environment day to remind us about the importance of keeping the environment safe for ourselves, our youth and our children.
UNICEF recognize the importance of environment and the importance of this day and so we are just gathered to remind our community leaders, our fathers the traditional leaders and all stakeholders, the duty bearers of this topic to ensure that we mobilize people, we sensitize on the need to plant, protect and nurture trees around the environment and not to cut them. With trees in the environment, it will help in mitigating the effect of flood in our communities.
She said as the topic says “Generation Restoration”, Youth Corpers were also engaged to implement a new project introduce by the UNICEF around climate change calling for an active involvement of the youths in the fight against climate change.
“We want them to have it as a lifestyle, planting of trees and not cutting it.
She urged the participants to propagate the message of planting trees rather than cutting them all the time.
“We are not speaking technically today, it’s simple, the issue is there is climate change problem and we need to take action and one of the action that we are reminding ourselves today is the planting of trees”, she said.
