Why I Facilitated The Establishment Of Nursing School At FMC Azare – CMD

The Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Azare, Dr. Abdullahi Ibrahim has disclosed that the Adamu Adamu College of Nursing Sciences was established at the Center under his watch to improve the human resource for health and facilitate the delivery of better health care services to the people of Bauchi state.

The CMD who made this known in an interview with our corresspondent recently in his office, noted that the training of nurses and midwives has since commenced in the school.

“When I took charge as the Medical Director, we appealed to the then member of House of Representatives, Hon. Ibrahim Baba to assist the hospital in the establishment of the College, we also set aside some amount in our capital fund budget. The member also considered the college in his constituency project and allocated some funds. The building commenced in earnest but due to paucity of funds it stagnated. We appealed to TetFund through Bauchi state university Gadau to come to the aid of the hospital under its special intervention project funding and now we have a school of nursing of which we have already commenced training”, he said.

Adding that, “We have provided the necessary additional facilities to ensure conducive learning environment and smooth take-up”, Dr. Said.

The CMD said that the college is facing shortage of accommodation and the hospital had convert the old Accident & Emergency Unit to cater for the accommodation of female students.

“Similarly, the Consultant’s Offices that will soon be completed will be temporarily use for more accommodation space pending the construction of a permanent accommodation for the students.

“I would like to use this opportunity to thank the Honourable Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu whom we named the school after despite his reservation and the former member of House of Representatives, Honourable Ibrahim Baba for their immense contribution toward the successful construction of the college.”
