Police kill one suspected kidnapper, rescues victim in Bauchi

Bauchi state police command has gunned down a suspected kidnapper while attempting to rescue a victim from their grip.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil who made this known in a press release on Sunday, pointed out that the police has launched a manhunt for the rest of the escaped kidnappers.
“The Bauchi state Police Command in its unrelenting commitment to ensuring the security of lives and property in the state has neutralized one kidnapper who attempted to kidnap the victim”, the press release read in parts.
He said that credible intelligence report revealed to the command that on the 3rd March 2023, on the same date at about 0100hrs some unknown gunmen invaded the residence of Alhaji Abdulhamid Muhammad at Rafin Cora village via Ningi LGA in an attempt to kidnap his son, One Usman Abdulhamid, age 28yrs.
According to the PPRO, in the process, the victim resisted being taken away by the kidnappers and was shot multiple times in his lower abdomen while trying to free himself.
He said, upon getting information, the DPO of Ningi led a joint operatives of police and local vigilante group swiftly to the scene to counter the kidnappers from accomplishing their mission in the village.
SP Wakil revealed that the kidnappers fired sporadic gunshots at the police operatives which attracted response from the police.
“While responding, the Operatives engaged them in a gun duel which forced them to scamper in disarray with possible gunshot wounds”, he said.
The PPRO announced that, in the process, “one of the kidnappers met his Waterloo at the spot, while one AK47 was retrieved during the encounter”.
He said that the victim was rescued and immediately taken to the federal medical center birnin kudu for treatment.
SP Wakil said concerted efforts are been intensified by the police to ensure that the fleeing suspects are arrested to face the full wrath of the law.
