Police arrest 300 level ATBU student over possession of fire arm

A 300 level student of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University ATBU Bauchi, Atim Emmanuel has been arrested by operatives of the Bauchi state police command over alleged possession of fire arm.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil who stated this in a crime bulletin Friday, said the suspect was arrested following the Command’s efforts to mop-up criminal elements around the students’ communities across the state.
“One Atim Emmanuel ‘m’ aged 23yrs old, a 300-level student of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi was arrested in possession of firearm and cartridge”, the crime bulletin announced.
It added that the 23-year-old student was arrested on the 11th of December, 2023, with a locally made revolver pistol and a cartridge while coming out of the university campus.
SP Wakil said that the suspect, during interrogation, confessed that he got the firearm from one Zadog ‘m’ who leased it to him for two academic semesters at the rate of twelve thousand naira (N12,000.00).
“He further stated that he acquired the firearm for his protection and security from criminals when attacked”, Police said.
SP Wakil said his boss, the Bauchi state Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed Musa has directed that the suspect be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation to unravel more circumstances behind his motives for acquiring the firearm.
He also directed that the investigation would determine whether the suspect has used the fire arm and killed anyone with it or not, after which he will be charged to court upon completion of discreet investigation.
The CP also appealed to parents, Guardians, and leaders holding various degrees of influence to prevail on their children and wards to guard against being used as Cannon-fodders in disrupting the relative peace and tranquility enjoyed in the state.
