NMA YOBE: I’ll not take the mandate you gave me for granted- Newly elected Yobe NMA chairman

The Newly elected Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) Yobe state branch, Dr. Usman Waziri has vowed never to take the mandate given to him by the members of the association for granted.

Delivering his acceptance speech on Sunday 20th July, 2024 as the 12th Chairman of NMA Yobe State Branch, Dr. Usman Waziri said he is honored and humbled by the massive support and votes he got during the election.

“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all of you for entrusting me with this significant responsibility which I will not take for granted”, the New NMA chairman pledged.

He expressed gratitude to his predecessor, the immediate past chairman for laying the solid foundation onto which he promised to set the ball rolling with his team.

“I would like to also thank our Elders, senior colleagues and colleagues for their unwavering support and confidence in my ability to lead”, Dr Waziri.

While stating that the position is not just a title, but a profound responsibility to serve the association, Dr. Waziri further vowed to serve with integrity, dedication, and vision.

“Your welfare is our utmost priority. This is beyond the 20k for wedding, 50k for loan but rather a very robust one where all of us will be proud to have and will be unveil in our first meeting”, he said.

According to him, the new EXCO under his Chairmanship would work to improve the status of the association’s lounge to create a befitting resting place for members.

Dr. Waziri also promised to support all the affiliates of the association, including medical students association to enable them function efficiently.

“Our Doctors house will be put to full function through effective collaboration including hosting social events to improve our revenue and we shall also explore all possible ways to improve our revenue generation”, he added.
The NMA chairman pointed out that his EXCO is going to reconstitute the editorial board of Yobe medical journal (YMJ) and ensure the publication of the Maiden Edition within his tenure.

“We must ensure that our members have access to the latest knowledge and skills through quality CME and partnership with governmental and NGOs to enable our members give quality healthcare for our citizens”, the Chairman said.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration, saying that NMA is part of a broader medical community, adding that, through partnerships with other organizations, institutions, and stakeholders, the goals of the association can be achieved.

“By working together, we can amplify our impact and drive meaningful change. I want to reiterate my gratitude for this opportunity to serve as the 12th Chairman”, he noted .

The Chairman expressed commitment towards leading with transparency, inclusivity, and a relentless focus on the association’s shared vision.

He added that, by working collectively, the association continue to uphold the highest standards of medical excellence, advocate for its profession, and most importantly, ensure that welfare of members is improved and the patients receive the best possible care.
