Bauchi Senator, Buba Empowers Over 2000 Youth, Women To Engage In Dry Season Farming

No fewer than 2, 000 youth and women farmers in seven local government areas of Bauchi South senatorial district have benefitted in from hybrid seedlings for the incoming dry season.

Presenting the special seedlings to the beneficiaries at a ceremony held Monday at Pali Suites in Bauchi, Senator Shehu Buba Umar said that the gesture is part of his agricultural programme to boost food production and ensure food security for his Bauchi south constituents.

Senator Shehu Buba explained that the distribution of the seedlings is just part of the package for the dry season farming project, as more of it would soon be unveiled to streamline the programme.

The Senator, who was represented at the occasion by his Legislative Aide, Hon. Maijama’a Mato, urged the beneficiaries to make the best of the opportunity for self-reliance and food security for the Bauchi south constituency.

Senator Umar was made fruitful in collaboration with Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute, Ilorin in conjunction with Pacificmate Global Concepts LTD.

Also speaking at the occasion, the General Manager of the Pacificmate Global Concepts LTD, Engineer Abdullatif Nuruddeen disclosed that the seedlings included maize, rice, soghom, soya beans and ordinary beans of high quality.

Mr. Nuruddeen explained that each of the seedlings has 420 bags thereby giving a total of 2, 100 bags for the 2, 000 beneficiaries.

He warned the beneficiaries against selling the seedlings without lending credence to agricultural output for mass production of the commodities for the benefit of citizens.

Another aide of the lawmaker, Hassan Abdullahi Gaji revealed that each of the 2, 000 beneficiaries would get a number of a variety of 10 bags, and called on beneficiaries and the constituents at large to continue praying for the senator to achieve his set objectives.

Gaji added that apart from the provision of hybrid seedlings for the dry season farming, each of the beneficiaries was also supported with a certain amount of cash to facilitate farming.

One of the programme beneficiaries, Haruna Shu’aibu Burwat, assured of making the best use of the seedlings, saying, “We would not relent in giving the senator all necessary support and cooperation in achieving the programme goals and objectives.
