FG commences implementation of AGILE project in Bauchi

Federal Government of Nigeria has through the federal ministry of Education, commenced the implementation of Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment in Bauchi with a Roundtable meeting with media practitioners.
Giving an overview of the AGILE project weekend, Ali Sule Gar, Project Coordinator AGILE Bauchi state, noted that the project is a World Bank Supported one, been implemented by federal ministry of education with an objective to improve enrollment, re-enrolment and retention of adolescent girls in public secondary schools.
According to him, the project proposed the use of comprehensive approach to address critical constraints faced by adolescent Girls which leads to their inability to complete secondary education.
According to him, the project aims at creation of safe and accessible learning space for girls by supporting increase access of adolescent Girls to secondary education through construction of climate smart infrastrure.
Gar further explained that AGILE project also aimed at improving existing infrastructure in secondary schools to accommodate increase in Girls transition to secondary school and make the school environment safe accessible, inclusive and conducive for teaching and learning.
The Coordinator added that the project is aimed at fostering an enabling environment and galvanizing support programs for girls education and empowerment among families.
Gar noted that by doing so, issues hindering girls participation in education would be addressed.
He also explained that a subcomponent part of the project promotes retention, succession and completion of girls education through communication campaigns, engagement of traditional rulers and advocacy to reduce variance to girls education as well as to address discrimination.
He said other subcomponent entails provision of financial support to poorest households to address financial variance against entry and completion of secondary school by adolescent girls.
