What people need to know as new university of Health Sciences Azare takes off September- Vice Chancellor

The newly established University of Health Sciences Azare (FUHSA), according to its Vice Chancellor, Professor Bala M. Audu is to take off in September this year.

However, one good thing that members of the public, particularly, the host zone, North East need to know is the Programmes embedded in the federal tertiary institution.

Health experts have attested that the university will further compliment North East governor’s giant strides in the health sector by drawing from the pool of manpower needed for the effective utilization of the available health facilities put on ground across 6 states of Bauchi, Yobe, Gombe, Borno, Adamawa and Taraba.

There is no doubt that the teaming and willing admission seekers in North East will now have a better chance to be admitted into the university which has unveiled the various courses to be run when it finally takes off late this year.

The Vice Chancellor had while speaking during the handing and taking over of facilities that will serve as the site of the University recently at CABS Azare, said that all preparations are being put in place to ensure that the university takes off in September, 2022.

“Hopefully, in Sha Allah, we intend to start academic session with four key Programmes by September this year”, he said.

He said some of the courses to start with include, Medicine(MBBS), Dentistry(BDS), Nutrition(Bsc), Nursing(Bsc),among others.

Recently, the leader of the re-accreditation and advisory team who toured the site of newly established University attested that the state of the art equipments put in place were commendable.

Led by the Registrar, Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Mr. Tajuddeen Sanusi, the team had noted that, with the establishment of the new University of Health Sciences Azare (FUHSA), the Federal Medical Center in the area will soon be converted to a Teaching hospital.

Mr. Sanusi had said that the FMC Azare is an institution that has been training house officers for years, adding that the aim of the visit was to inspect the facilities in the hospital and the College of Administration and Business Studies (CABS) Azare which is the proposed site for the university.

With the take off of the University, the required manpower that will man our health facilities would be made available which will in turn, tackle the issue of medical tourism not only among the people of the Northeast but Nigeria as a whole.

“We want you to become a hub because the federal government is poised to actually tackle the issue of medical tourism”, Mr Tajuddeen Sanusi had said.

“The issue of medical tourism is actually not okay for us because in most cases, our resources are taken outside, it’s like wasting money. So, it’s not friendly for our economy”, he had pointed out.

Mr Sanusi had likened hospital to a workshop for Doctors and other health workers, hence the need for the FMC Azare to change its status to teaching hospital.

With the recent assurance of the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Bala M. Audu that the university management under him will do everything possible to ensure the success of federal government’s good plans towards health care services, the entire Northeast will in no distant time, have their health properly taken care of.

Nevertheless, what is now left, is for the citizens to take up this available opportunity, so that as soon as the sales of admission commences, they can apply to study the various courses outlined by the university.
