Ember month: Motorists cautioned against recklessness

Members of the Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), particularly drivers, have been cautioned against reckless overtaking and dangerous driving during ember months.

The Bauchi state Chapter Chairman of the Association, Comrade Abdullahi Mohammed gave the advice in an interview with Journalists on Wednesday in Bauchi.

According to the chairman of the RTEAN, there is always heavy traffic during the ember months due to number of vehicles on the highways.

He decried that Drivers who are in the habit of doing their job in total disregard to traffic rules have caused crashes and loss of lives and property on the highway.

“Road accidents are caused by human errors; motorists should always put on the safety belts”, he further advised.

Comrade Mohammed also cautioned drivers to always avoid speeding, wrong overtaking, use of expired tyres and overloading of goods and passengers.

He also advised that drivers should limit their speed ranging from 100 to 110 speedometer where necessary on the highway.

Comrade warned against the use of expired tyres to curtail Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs) particularly during the ember months.

The Chairman explained that RTEAN collaborates with Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) , Vehicles Inspection Officers VIO to sensitize drivers in motor parks on the dangers of reckless driving.

“We also warned against drinking alcohol and taking some drugs while on wheels”, he said

Comrade Mohammed said their offices always ensure that vehicles are properly checked in the motorparks before plying highways.

He however advised passengers to always caution reckless drivers in order to reduce road crashes on the Nigerian highways.
