Maiduguri Varsity Teaching Hospital constitutes committee to ensure successful 40th anniversary

The University of Maiduguri Teaching hospital has put measures in place to ensure the successful celebration of its fourty years anniversary since establishment 1983.
As part of activities to celebrate the 40th anniversary, the Chief medical Director of the Institution, professor Ahmed Ahidjo, has innaugrated a committee saddled with the responsibilities of making arrangements for its success.
The Committee was given terms of reference among which is to recommend a suitable theme and logo for the anniversary celebration that projects the university current outlook.
The Committee is also mandated to develop a communication plan to adequately involve and inform the Hospital’s community and other stakeholders in the anniversary celebration.
While inaugurating the Committee, the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Ahidjo, recalled the history of the Hospital, which he informed, started with only 300 bed capacity and four Departments.
He expressed delight that over the period, the Hospital has now grown to 1,200 bed capacity with over thirty Departments, making it the largest teaching hospital in Nigeria.
The Chief Medical Director, however, highlighted some of the milestone development the Hospital has so far achieved since inception four decades ago to include; producing renowned highly qualified medical Doctors Globally.
He further explained that during the forthcoming 40th anniversary, many projects would be commissioned as well as foundation for new ones would be put in place.
Responding, Chairman of the Committee, Prof. Shehu Liberty promised to justify the confidence reposed in them.
Shehu, who pledged to work closely with the Committee members to ensure timely execution of the task given them within the six weeks period, expressed optimisms that the anniversary would be a hitch-free celebration.
According to him, the upcoming celebration would be an exceptional one as the Hospital has been doing a lot since 40 years of its existence.
The Committee Chairman explained that the university has, since its establishment, touched the lives of not only the people of Borno state but also the Northeast region, neighbouring Chad, Niger Republic and Cameroon respectively.
