By Khalid Idris Doya
The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in Bauchi has asked its Principal Partner, Eko Ejembi, SAN & Associates to take legal action against the PDP Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), and any person it deemed necessary to restore back the party and its gubernatorial candidate to their pre-PDP-PCC statement.
It could be recalled that some top echelon of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council including Governor Bala Mohammed have Tuesday the 7th February in Bauchi at the party’s presidential campaign launch mentioned some decampees into the PDP, the gubernatorial candidate of the ZLP in Bauchi, Amb. Khalid Arewa inclusive.
Speaking with Journalists yesterday, the Bauchi ZLP governorship candidate, Khalid Arewa explained that the purported announcement by members of the PDP presidential campaign council has culminated to threats to his life by the party’s diehards, while his office was vandalized and touched.
Arewa, who expressed optimism of winning the 11th March, 2023 gubernatorial elections in the state, stressing that “It is only when elections are not freely and fairly conducted or when it isn’t conducted at all that could prevent our swearing-in on May 29, 2023.
Candidate Khalid Arewa who observed that he is the youngest among the gubernatorial hopefuls in the state, said that it is the turn of the youths to form a popular and result-oriented government in Bauchi on 29th May, and expressed worrisome the ruling is all illegal steps to terminate the ZLP chance of winning the polls.
The Zenith Labour Party in a letter to its solicitors said, “In the light of the above and as a respected member of the inner bar whose life and practice has substantially been devoted to the promotion and defense of the law and human rights, you are by this letter instructed to take every necessary legal action against the PDP, PCC and any other person you deemed necessary to restore back our party and candidate to their position pre PDP PCC statement”.
Tagged, ‘Letter of Instruction’, it said that “Please take this as a brief for and on behalf of the Zenith labour Party and its Gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 general elections in Bauchi state”.
Signed by the ZLP Gubernatorial Candidate, Amb. Khalid Arewa, the letter further stated, “This brief is necessitated by the action of the PDP PCC today the 7th February 2023 in Bauchi where the name of our Gubernatorial candidate, Amb. Khalid Arewa was announced as having defected to the PDP thus abandoning his party and his people midway into the election”.
“Since the announcement by the PDP, the party and its candidate have been inundated with calls from across the followers and supporters as well as well-wishers of the party from 20 Local Government Areas of the state and its candidates expressing their angers and disappointment and calling all manner of unprinted names thereby lowering his esteem in their eyes”.
According to the letter, the action of the PDP has not only denigrated Amb. Khalid completely portrayed him as a sale out whose antics has been that of a betrayer who should not be trusted forthwith.
“As a young man who is aspiring to govern Bauchi state for the first time, this act is capable of affecting his future aspirations should he fail this time. Please consider and execute this brief with all the discretion at your disposal to the conclusion”, the letter said.
