Bauchi approves purchase of thirty 18-seater buses to boost transport sector

Bauchi state government has approved a memo from the ministry of Commerce and Industry for the purchase of thirty 18-seater buses for Yankari Transport company in order to boost the transport sector.
The state Commissioner of Commerce and Industry, Hajiya Zainab Baban Tanko, made this known while briefing newsmen on the memo she presented during the state executive council meeting held at the banquet hall of the government house late last week.
The State Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Yahuza Adamu Ningi who briefed newsmen on behalf of the Commissioner, noted that during the meeting which was presided over by the Governor, Bala Mohammed, the council approved the submission of the ministry of commerce and industry to procure the buses to boost the commercial activities of Yankari Transport corporation.
“In order to alleviate the sufferings of the masses in terms of transportation, the council gave the go ahead to the ministry of commerce and industry to enter into partnership and agreement with a private company to purchase thirty 18-seater vehicles at the cost of N16m each”, the Commissioner said.
According to Commerce and Industry Commissioner, “the payment period is two years and it is a Public Private Partnership agreement which government has no hand in terms of bearing the cost”.
Hajiya Zainab explained that the government has hand in ensuring that the environment has been created for confidence building for the private sector to invest into the state economy.
“The Commissioner has made presentation and the council has approved”, the head of service said.
“So, in no distance time, in fact they promised His Excellency that before the transition period the buses are going to be launched for Yankari Transport corporation”, Alhaji Yahuza added.
