Bauchi Emirate Council Suspends Yakubu Dogara As Jakadan Bauchi
The Bauchi Emirate Council has approved the suspension of the traditional title of JAKADAN BAUCHI being occupied by the former speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara with immediate effect.
The suspension of the title was Monday announced by the Galadiman Bauchi, Surveyor Ibrahim Sa’idu Jahun at a press briefing held at the palace’s council chamber.
He explained that the council at its recent meeting reviewed the issue of 21st memorial anniversary of the Sayawa freedom fighter, Late Baba Peter Gonto during which Emirs of Bauchi and Dass, Alhaji Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu and Alhaji Usman Bilyaminu Othman were attacked by irate mob.
The council meeting was dismayed that one of the sons of the area, a stakeholder and traditional title holder of Jakadan Bauchi was mentioned as one leading the people and perpetrating the incident.
Surveyor Ibrahim Jahun expressed the council’s surprise that Yakubu Dogara as hitherto Jakadan Bauchi did not sympathize or shor remorse towards what happened to the Royal Highnesses, the emirs of Bauchi and Dass over the incident of 31st December, 2021 at Bogoro and Tafawa Balewa LGAs of the state.
Galadima puts the emirate council’s resolution succinctly thus, “The Emirate Council therefore decided to suspend the title of Jakadan Bauchi with immediate effect until the determination of the case by the Court.
It could be recalled that the State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed has dragged the former speaker to the Bauchi High Court following his alleged involvement in the Bogoro/ Tafawa Balewa saga that culminated to the attack on the emirs.
The emirate council had after a meeting on the 4th January, 2022 condemned the attack on the emirs, and descreibed it as barbaric, provocative and misleading, and called on the state government to fish out perpetrators of the act with a view to bringing them to book.
It could similarly be recalled that the incident of 30th and 31st December, 2021, 21st memorial anniversary of the Sayawa freedom fighter, Late Baba Peter Gonto was hijacked by hoodlums, leading to brigandage in which the Bauchi emirs were attack, and houses and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed, as well as alleged killing of some persons.
