Bauchi Govt Refutes Scholarship Board Dissolution Story
By Khalid Idris Doya
The Bauchi state government has refuted a press statement credited to it emphasising the need for the dissolution of the state scholarship board for its inability to provide scholarship to indigenous students attributed to harsh economic challenges.
“The Bauchi State Government wishes to categorically refute and clarify a statement circulating in the social media, purportedly signed by the Media Adviser to His Excellency, the Governor, suggesting the dissolution of the Bauchi State Scholarship Board”.
According to the underlying statement, the dissolution of the board is due to the government’s inability to continue providing scholarships to students as a result of economic hardship and lack of federal allocation.
A statement debunking the earlier claim signed by the special adviser to the state governor on media and publicity, Mukhtar Gidado said, “We hereby state that this information is completely false and does not reflect the position of the Bauchi State Government”.
Gidado’s signed statement which was made available to the press yesterday further stated, “At no point did the government issue any directive to dissolve the Scholarship Board or halt the provision of scholarships to deserving students”.
The media adviser explained that the Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed led administration remained committed to its priority of supporting education and the welfare of students across the state.
He said despite the economic challenges faced by the country, the Bauchi State Government has consistently prioritized education, knowing its significance to the future of our state.
“We reaffirm that the state scholarship scheme remains active, and the government will ensure that scholarships are paid on time”, and therefore urged the general public, particularly students and parents to disregard the purported statement.
Special Adviser Gidado further explained that any official communication from the Bauchi State Government will be duly released through recognized channels and verified authorities.
He concluded, “Bauchi State government under the inspirational leadership of Governor Bala Mohammed is committed to fostering transparency, accountability, and the development of education in Bauchi state”.
