FG Constructing Over 13,000km Roads Nationwide – Works Minister

The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola has disclosed that over 13,000 federal Roads are undergoing construction across the country.
Fashola who made this known in Bauchi on Thursday during the 27th meeting of National Council of works, explained that the Federal Government under the ministry of works and Housing is executing over 895 contracts including roads and bridges across the nation.
In the meeting with the theme “infrastructure delivery, the maintenance economy and national prosperity, the Minister said the Federal Government is executing over 13,000 km roads across the 36 states of the Federation.
According to him, the federal government is poised to providing more infrastructural facilities towards improving the living standard of the citizens.
He added that the FG was committed to reducing poverty among 10 million Nigerians, urging the state government to put the vision of employing more people in order to reduce poverty among the Citizens.
The Minister said the Federal Ministry of works and Housing has presented a Memo to the Federal Executive Council for the establishment of maintenance unit in the relevant ministries in the country.
Fashola urged the participants to put more focus on infrastructure maintenance in order to make the life of the citizens better.
In his remark, the Bauchi state Governor, Bala Mohammed Appreciated the Federal Ministry of works and Housing for holding the meeting in the state.
Represented by his Deputy, Senator Baba Tela, the Governor said his administration is committed to providing the needed infrastructure to the people of the state in line with his mission and vision.
He further explained that the state government is collaborating with World bank and African development Bank to construct more roads in rural Communities under the RAAMP project as well as the urban and renewal project across the state.
In his welcome address, the state commissioner of works and transport, Abdulkadir Ibrahim thanked the Federal Ministry of works and Housing for spreading road projects across the state and the emergency response in restoring washout section of federal roads caused by flood all over the nation.
Participants where drawn from the Federal Ministry of works and Housing, state commissioners of works from 36 states of the Federation as well as their permanent secretaries.
