FUHSA holds maiden congregational meeting, attributes success to team work

The Federal University of Health Sciences Azare FUHSA in Bauchi state has attributed the successes recorded since establishment to staff resilience, team work and dedication to duty.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Bala M. Audu who made this known while addressing staff during the university’s maiden Congregational meeting at the University Auditorium on Wednesday 16th August, 2023 which he described each staff as ‘key Stakeholder’ in the mission and vision of the university.
According to him, at inception, the management deliberated on what its vision should be before settling for been ‘a world-class university in teaching, research and community service, which he said are the triple mandate of every Nigerian university.
Prof. Audu who explained that the Vision can be achieved if each and every staff of the university work as a team.
“Achieving visions is about both top-bottom approach as well as bottom-top approach. That is the essence why universities have congregations which already the chairman of the organizing this congregation has defined for us”, he noted.
While thanking the Chairman organizing committee Prof Hamma Sabo for making the meeting a reality, commended him for doing a good job.
“As Director of remedial and General Studies in the university Prof. Hamma singlehandedly brought Remedial Science Studies into fruition, he didn’t only brought it to fruition but each and every student who went through remedial scored atleast minimum JAMB entry point to a Nigerian university”, he said that overall score was 100%
The VC described FUHSA as first amongst equals, adding that the university was established alongside four others but is leading in every aspect.
“In FUHSA, academic activities have settled down completely, our students have finished their 100 level, we are in first week of September starting 200 level and admitting our second set, in fact we are admitting our third set because we admitted two sets back to back”, Prof Audu hinted.
He pointed out that the achievements so far recorded in FUHSA is as a result of dedication of each staff of the Institution to his or her official engagement.
“Each of you here is part of this success story. You have been doing an excellent job, that means more job is coming”, the vice Chancellor envisaged.
“We are not perfect, management is not perfect, management needs your inputs to improve on what we are doing right or to correct what we are doing wrong”, Prof Audu appealed.
He stressed that the meeting is an interactive session which made the discussion to focus on staff welfare and development by creating the enabling environment for both the staff and the students to thrive.
The VC who stated that on assumption, the management of the university employed staff to run the affairs of the university added that the university was confronted with accommodation challenges. He said the University provided most of the staff both Academic and Non-Academic with House Accommodation adding that plans are underway to address accommodation challenges in the University.
According to him, the University at inception housed offices in the school of nursing of the federal medical center Azare where they shared offices now they moved to their permanent place within this short period.
Prof. Audu said one of the greatest challenges the university faced at inception was staffing because of its peculiarities adding that the University succeeded and employed qualified staff who assumed work and have kept the university moving.
