Health Minister Pate flags-off distribution of relief materials to victims of flood in Bauchi

The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Ali Muhammad Pate on Saturday flagged-off the distribution of relief materials to victims of flood disaster across 9 local government areas of Bauchi state.

Speaking separately at the Palaces of Emirs of Misau, Katagum and Jama’are emirate councils that housed the nine Local government areas, the minister appreciated them for their fatherly role which de-escalated the recent Nationwide protests that turned violent in some parts of the country.

Professor Pate while praying to God for continued peaceful coexistence in the country, said he was in Bauchi to also comiserate with the flood victims, the emirate council and the entire people of the affected areas and Bauchi state in general.

The Health minister who further prayed God to prevent future occurrence, condoled the Misau Emirate over the death of Alhaji Ibrahim Dandija, praying for the reposed of his soul.

According to him, he was among the Federal Government delegation led by Vice President Kashim Shittima that paid condolence on Governor Bala Mohammed and the people of Bauchi over the death of Ningi Emir Alhaji Muhammadu Yunusa Danyaya within the week.

The minister who said that the relief materials were made available by Chigari Foundation, explained that that the relief materials would be distributed to 250 households in the affected areas to cushion their hardship.

The minister requested for the nomination of two persons within the Misau Emirate council that will work with officials of the Cigari Foundation in the distribution exercise to ensure that the materials reached to the targeted persons.

He said that the materials include 3000 mosquito nets, 10,000 anti malaria drugs, 40,000 test kits for malaria.

The minister added that the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has offered to carry out free medical outreach to the communities affected by the flood as part of their own contribution.

Professor Pate while thanking the NMA for the offer, said that the 9 local government areas within the affected three emirate councils of Misau, Katagum and Jama’are would be adequately covered.

He thanked president Tinubu for establishing Federal Medical Centre in Misau as well as appointing Dr. Katagum as CMD of Teaching Hospital Azare, saying that the newly appointed CMDs have since commenced work.

Responding, the Emir of Misau Alh Ahmed Suleiman mni, thanked the minister for the visit, and described him as a worthy son of Misau Emirate council.

He commended the minister for his immense contributions to the development of not only Misau Emirate council or Bauchi state but Nigeria at large.

The Emir who also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Prof Mohammed Ali Pate as Minister of Health and Social Welfare, commended the minister for his sacrifice for Nigerian
