Kidnap suspect in police net for killing 8 yr old victim in Bauchi

The Bauchi state police command has announced the arrest of a suspected kidnapper who allegedly kidnapped, killed and buried an 8 year old son a neighbor in Toro local government area of Bauchi state.

As contained in a crime bulletin made available to newsmen in Bauchi by the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil on Thursday, the suspect murdered the victim upon realizing that security was tight around the designated point of receiving the ransom he has demanded from the boy’s father.

“The Bauchi State Police Command has successfully arrested the perpetrator responsible for the death of 8-year-old Kamal Aliyu in the Runjin Gani area of Toro LGA”, part of the crime bulletin reads.

It said, on August 4, 2024, Kamal Aliyu was reported kidnapped by unknown individuals in Runjin Gani village in Toro LGA of Bauchi state.

According to Police, in response, the Division Police Officer (DPO) of Toro Police Divisional headquarters launched an intensive search and rescue operation in the area.

“Acting on credible intelligence and a tip-off on August 15, 2024, the Divisional Police Officer apprehended Ibrahim Mohamed Liman, a 23-year-old male resident of the same Runjin Gani community and a close neighbour to the victim’s family”, the crime bulletin further explained.

It said, during interrogation, the suspect confessed to conspiring with another individual, whose identity is still unknown, to kidnap Kamal Aliyu by luring him under the pretence of delivering a message to his father, Alhaji Ali Runji.

SP Wakil said that the suspect admitted to taking the young boy into a nearby bush, where they killed him and buried his body in a shallow grave.

“The suspect also disclosed that they had demanded a ransom of two hundred thousand Naira from the victim’s father. Although the father complied and took the ransom money to the designated location, the suspects were unable to retrieve it due to the presence of security operatives in the nearby area”, SP Wakil said.

SP Wakil said that the Bauchi state Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Mohammed has ordered for a thorough investigation into the crime.

He said that CP Auwal Musa Mohammed has directed the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation.

“The Command extends its deepest condolences to the family of the victim and reiterates its commitment to protecting life and property, assuring the public that every effort is being made to bring all those involved in this heinous crime to justice”, the crime bulletin disclosed.
