Miri District Head Harps on stronger synergy to sustain ODF status in Bauchi LG

The District Head of Miri in Bauchi Local Government Area of Bauchi state, Alhaji Hussaini Abubakar Othman has urged stronger collaboration among stakeholders to sustain the Open Defecation Free ODF status attained in Nine Local Government Areas of the state.
Othman who stated this while speaking to a team of journalists in his palace yesterday, assured of his readiness to synergize with other traditional title holders within his domain to sustain the Open-defecation-free status of the Local Government.
Our correspondent gathered that, so far, Nine Local Government Areas of Bauchi state have been declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) by the National Task Group on Sanitation (NTGS).
The District Head said, as traditional title holders, they will continue to support the state government and development partners in the health sector to improve the health condition of the citizens through promotion of good hygiene practices.
Alhaji Othman who commended the state government for promoting public health and hygiene, said such efforts have made significant progress in eradicating open defecation across Nine Local Government Areas of the state.
“The state has achieved Open Defecation Free (ODF) status in nine local government areas, with the goal of achieving statewide ODF status by 2025”, he explained.
Alhaji Othman further expressed commitment to sustaining the ODF status achieved by the state.
According to him, stronger strategy was used disseminating information to various channels in the community on the importance of proper hygiene to phase out open defecation.
The district head said information was disseminated directly through various channels to communities on the need to curb open defecation and maintain proper hygiene.
Othman also expressed commitment to sustaining the ODF status and ensure that communiries remain healthy and safe.
He said as traditional leaders, they accorded the needed attention to the concern of their subjects, promising continued establishment of cordial relations with concern authorities to maintain the ODF status.
Alhaji Othman commended the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for providing both technical and financial support to the campaign against Open Defecation.
He praised media practitioners for playing a viral role in Educating and sensitizing the public on the health dangers of indulging in open defecation which he observed that it is yielding positive results.
