Nat’l Commission for PWDs mulls siting of zonal headquarters in Bauch

The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWDs) has disclosed the possibility of siting its zonal headquarters in Bauchi state.

Hon. Brisca Joram Aaron, Executive Secretary, Agency for Persons with Disabilities, Bauchi State who stated this in a press statement Friday, noted that the effort is geared towards bringing the activities of the Commission closer to Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) living within the North East region.

She further explained that the initiative, when carried out, will alleviate some of the hardships PWDs are facing while going to Abuja.

According to her, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Honourable James Lalu gave the hint recently when she led some Directors to an advocacy visit to the Commission in Abuja.

Hon. Aaron who said that the primary purpose of their visit was to commend the Commission for its efforts in supporting persons with disabilities in Bauchi State, applauded the Commission’s ES and his management team for their innovative approach to tackling issues that affect PWDs across the Country.

Ms. Aron said, under Governor Bala Mohammed led government, the Agency has been resuscitated with a view to bringing persons with disabilities closer to the government and cater to their essential needs, such as education, healthcare, and other social services.

She solicited the support of the Commission towards establishment of the Zonal National Headquarters of the Commission for Persons with Disabilities office in Bauchi State.

In his response, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Hon. James Lalu said the Commission is aware of the efforts been made by the Bauchi State Agency for PWDs in bringing succour and support to that vulnerable segment of Nigerians.

He commended the Bauchi State Government and the Agency for Persons with Disabilities for their relentless efforts towards improving the lives of persons with disabilities.

The Executive secretary pledged the Commission’s support to the establishment of the zonal office in Bauchi State, which he observed will further strengthen the support network for persons with disabilities in the region.

The press release further said Hon. Brisca Jarom Aaron had in a related development paid an advocacy visit to the office of the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunity, Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa to seek his support for the establishment of the National Disability Commission Zonal Headquarters in Bauchi State.
