Nigeria’s VP-elect commended for donating N100m to victims of Maiduguri market inferno

The Nigerian Vice President-elect, Senator Kashim Shettima has been commended for donating N100 million to the victims of Maiduguri market inferno.

Usman Ma’ule who made the commendation in a press statement on Thursday, said Kashim Shettima announced the donation when he paid a sympathy visit to Governor Zulum at the Government House in Maiduguri.

“Shettima was a two-term governor of Borno State from 2011 to 2019 and he is currently representing Borno Central at the Senate”, Usman said.

According to him, the VP-elect while expressing sadness over the incident on Monday, described the affected famous market as the nerve centre of commercial activities in the northeastern sub region.

“As my modest contribution towards cushioning the effects of the sad incident, I am making a personal donation of N100m for the victims of the fire disaster”, he quoted senator Shettima as saying.

He said that the VP-elect noted that Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of the state will lead them to meet President Muhammadu Buhari to solicit for a massive intervention from the federal government, not only towards the reconstruction of the destroyed market, but also palliative for the victims of the fire incident.

“Mr. President is at liberty to use whatever platform, be it the NEDC or any government outfit towards addressing the challenges we are currently facing. Everyone here knows how badly important; the Maiduguri Monday market is to the livelihood of this city”, Usman said.

Ma’ule while congratulating his compatriot and the Vice President-elect, added that he was delighted to hear of his victory in Saturday 25th February, 2023 election.

“I was so pleased to hear of your conclusive success to the seat of Vice President on the platform of the ruling party. Certainly, your willingness to offer your time, experience, competence and effort, as well as express your opinions, has contributed to your being elected for the post”, Usman said.

“We trust that you will continue to work for improved youth programs in Nigeria, particularly upgrading the Economy. Please be aware that you have our full support. We wish you all the best as you represent us”, Usman Ma’ule further said.

According to him, “working closely with your campaign team helped us understand and appreciate your level of commitment, intellectualism, political vision, sagacity, fidelity, tolerance, patience, honesty, and above all your statesmanship”.

“I have followed your career for years, right from the private sector of the economy in financial institutions, the public sector as Commissioner for Finance, Agriculture, Local Government affairs and Health ministries in Borno state; Executive Governor of Borno state for eight years and a serving Senator representing Borno central in the National assembly. You have always impressed me with your clear vision and ability to get the job done against the most formidable opposition”, Usman stated.

“I am confident that your influence will continue to encourage our proud tradition of involvement in worthwhile political causes. I wish you the best in this new term of office”, he said.
