By Khalid Idris Doya

The Northern Youth Association of Nigeria has condemned the recent accusations made by Amnesty International against the Nigerian military.

Group said allegations are not only unfounded but also detrimental to the morale of Nigeria’s brave men and women in uniform who risk their lives daily to protect the country.

Northern Youth Association of Nigeria in a statement issued by its president, Godiya T. Adams Bogoro on Tuesday, said it is appalling that Amnesty International has chosen to ignore the tremendous progress made by the Nigerian military in recent times, particularly under the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa.

He said the CDS has demonstrated unwavering commitment to the welfare of military personnel, respect for human rights, and the security of Nigeria.

“General Musa’s leadership has been marked by significant achievements which deserve commendation.”

According to the group, the Nigerian military under CDS Musa has made considerable gains in the fight against terrorism and insurgency, ensuring the safety and security of citizens.

“The CDS has prioritised human rights, promoting a culture of respect and adherence to international humanitarian law within the military.”

Adams Bogoro further said General Musa has implemented various initiatives to improve the welfare of military personnel, including enhanced training, equipment, and benefits.

“We commend the Chief of Defence Staff for his exemplary leadership and vision. His commitment to national security, human rights, and the welfare of military personnel is a testament to his dedication to the Nigerian people.

“We plead with the CDS to remain steadfast in the delivery of his committed services to Nigeria and the Nigerian people, no amount of distraction from Amnesty international or any mischief makers should dissuade him. We fully recognise his efforts and that of all military personnel that are always aware so we can sleep soundly.”

“The Northern Youth Association of Nigeria, will always support the effort of the military and that of this present Federal Government led by His Excellency, Bola Agmed Tinubu whose drive is to see a better and more prosperous Nigeria,” the statement added.

Comrade Bogoro, however, urged Amnesty International to refrain from making unsubstantiated allegations that can undermine the morale of the Nigerian military and the confidence of citizens.

The group advised Amnesty to engage in constructive dialogue and collaboration to promote human rights and national security.
