Planned Protest: Bauchi Govt Refutes Reports On PHC Centres Closure

BY KHALID IDRIS DOYA, Bauchi

The Bauchi State Government has debunked stories circulating in both print and electronic media across the country that it is planning to close all its primary healthcare centres (PHCs) in the eve of the planned national protest against hardships Nigerians are experiencing resulting from government’s economic policies.

The Secretary to the Bauchi State Government, Barrister Kassim Ibrahim Mohammed Wednesday while refuting the story, said that the government has completely disassociated itself against any protest.

“On the part of the state government, the government has completely disassociated itself against any protest, it is not aware, it’s not welcoming any protest and it is not going to happen in Bauchi state”.

Barrister Kassim Ibrahim Mohammed who was flanked by the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs and the State DSS Director, said, “Bauchi state has been known for its peace and tranquility where people go about their daily businesses without any let or hindrance”.

“This press briefing is necessitated by the news going round in the state and indeed the country in both the print and electronic media to the effect that the state government has afloat the closure of our primary healthcare centres all over the state on the day of planned protest”.

According to the state government scribe, anybody planning for any protest in Bauchi should better think twice, saying”If he must protest, then he must go and arrange it somewhere else but not in Bauchi state”.

“On the issue of the closure of primary healthcare centres in the state, this is absolutely not true, it’s being done without the consent, knowledge and approval of the state government. The officer concerned, we will investigate the matter and he will be judged according to the law”.

Barrister Kassim Mohammed explained that the state primary healthcare centres all over the state and indeed all public institutions in the state will remain open throughout the period they are supposed to be opened.

Kassim therefore called on people of the state to disregard the purported information in circulation.
