World Bank Project Conducts Orientation For LG Project Officers In Bauchi

The World Bank Assisted intervention titled Bauchi State Livelihood Grant Support Project, under the Nigeria Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) has conducted a one intensive Orientation for Local Government desk officers, facilitators and grievance redress mechanism (GRM) officers that will be implementing the Livelihood Grant Support Project at the LG level.
In an opening remarks shortly before the commencement of the orientation exercise held on Sunday at the Maisanda Conference Hall in Bauchi, the State Project Coordinator Mallam Bala Yakubu Lame said that it is expected that the Livelihood Grant Support Project will target households and micro-businesses from the informal sector with a view to empowering them, which will in turn expand the social safety net and minimise the untold hardship being faced by the people, resulting from the global Covid-19 pandemic.
Represented by the Procurement officer of the project Mallam Hassan Baba Misau, Lame said that the project is designed to provide soft skills and one-off payments to head of households that were mined from the State Social Register (SR).
The Coordinator further said that, orientation exercise was organized for project staff that will work at the grassroots level.
He said that the project staff are LG Desk officers, Facilitators and Grievance Redress Mechanism officers stressing that, “You have been selected from many applicants with the belief that you will deliver the mandate of your official assignment in the project with absolute sense of commitment, patriotism and dedication”.
He urged the LG project officers to pay keen attention on what the facilitators would teach them, adding that, “do not hesitate to ask questions on any aspect of the project as it relates to your responsibility”.
In a goodwill message to the participants, the State Coordinator of the entire NG-CARES Intervention, Mallam Dahiru Sambo told the LG Project officers to ensure successful implementation of the intervention in their respective LGs saying “the livelihood project is a result based program that is going to be monitored closely to ensure that results are achieved”.
Our correspondent reports that three presentations were made by the Operations Officer of the Project Mr. Adamu Nayola. The presentations were centered around Project Overview, Roles of LG Desk Officers, Facilitators and Grievance Redress Mechanism Officers.
Other topic presented by Mr Nayola was Project Implementation Procedures, while the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) officer of project, Mallam Muhammad Chinade took the participants through a topic titled Project Management.
Highlight of the orientation exercise was the issuance of appointment letters to the LG project staff.It could be recalled that some few months back, the Livelihood Grant Support Project was officially flagged off at the Government House Bauchi by the Secretary to the State Government Barrister Ibrahim Kashim Mohammed.
