Yobe Govt seeks FGs intervention over flooding

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state has appealed to the federal government of Nigeria for intervention over incidents of flooding in some Communities of the state.

The appealed which was contained in a press release signed by the press secretary to the deputy Governor of the state, Hussaini Mai Suleh, said the devastating flood wrecked serious havoc on communities of Gujba and Gulani Local government areas of Yobe state.

The press statement said the Governor made the call when he visited affected communities of Gujba and Gulani Local government areas.

He said that the communities include Buni Gari, Likdir, Kukuwa, Bularafa, Gumsa and Dokshi villages.

The Governor said the damage caused by flood this raining season is so unprecedented.

Buni who was represented by his deputy, Hon Idi Barde Gubana noted that the state has never experienced such kind of devastating flood before.

The Governor commiserated with the victims who lost their houses and farmlands to the flood on Saturday.

He assured the people of the affected communities of government’s support to ease their sufferings.

The state government, the press statement said, will offer assistance to minimize the sufferings of the people and also assured that the attention of the relavant agencies was drawn to the road washed away by the flood.

“We are concerned and we have already directed SEMA to adequately compensate the victims so as to cushion the effects of the damage caused by the flood”, the Governor noted.

Conducting the Governor round, the Executive Secretary State Emergency Management Agency, (SEMA), Dr Mohammad Goje explained that the incident accured after a torrential rainfall on Saturday which damaged over 780 farmlands and 620 houses in Gujba and Gulani Local government areas.

According to him, at the moment, the bridge linking Dokshi, Bursari, Bara, Gulani, Tettaba, Njibulwa and Ngurum villages were completely cut off as a result of the heavy downpour.

The executive chairmen of Gujba and Gulani Local government areas as well as village heads of the affected
communities, expressed gratitude to the Governor for the timely visit, appealing to the government to come to their aid.

Special prayers were offered at Bularafa Jumma’a Mosque led by the special adviser on religious affairs Ustas Babagana kyari for Allah to reward the victims with the best and for further accurance of the flood.

The Deputy Governor was accompanied by the Speaker Yobe state House of assembly, secretary to the state government, Head of service, Hon. Members of Gujba and Gulani constituency..

Others were Commissioners of Home affairs information and culture, Humanitarian affairs and disaster management, Housing and Urban development, higher Education, state attorney general and Commissioner for justice Transport and energy, head of security agencies were also on the entourage.

Also on the visit to the affected areas were special advisers on political and legislative matters, Religious affairs, permanent secretary water resources and General mangers of REB and Sanitation respectively.
