7,000 APC Members Decamp To PDP In Bauchi
By Khalid Idris Doya
All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi state numbering over 7, 000 members have resolved to decamped to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), according to their leader and aspirant to the APC youth chairmanship, Alhaji Adamu Dako.
Speaking while obtaining the PDP registration card preparatory to the cross carpeting, Alhaji Bako explained that things were not going correctly with the APC in Bauchi state, his resolve along with over 7, 000 followership decided to dump the party.
“I regretted being in the party for years, only to realized now that APC is bedeviled by controversies in its hierarchy, things were not going in a normal way, and felt that we could no longer tolerate such happenings”.
Dako said, “There are strong indications that APC in Bauchi would be short-lived, especially with the election of Sadiq Baba Abubakar, as he portrays it to be a sign of failure in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.”
“Whoever knew about how the amalgam of political parties were formed to produce the APC as a political party, knows that the amalgamation is an entirely a miss-road. APC is already dead and would soon be taken to the graveyard for funeral rites”, Dako lamented.
He explained that they were motivated by the tremendous successes recorded by the people’s Governor of Bauchi state, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed to dump the APC and pitch tent with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), expressing confidence Governor Bala Mohammed would sweep the polls in the governorship elections in the state.
Receiving the decampees to the PDP, the Bauchi local government party chairman, Alhaji Abdulkadir Alin Bababa expressed delight that more members of the APC are day-by-day trouping into the PDP, wondering what is really happening in the opposition’s camp.
The Bauchi PDP Local Government chairman who was represented by deputy, Malam Sani Ahmad, supported by other officials of the party at LG level, assured the incoming APC reverted members of internal democracy, justice and equity in the PDP, and urged them to work for PDP victory in all elective offices in the forthcoming general elections.
Also speaking during the ceremony, the political adviser to the state governor, Hon. Abubakar Faggo noted that the trend of decamping into the PDP is an attestation that people in the state are solidly behind the Kauran Bauchi-led administration.
Responding to the development, public relations officer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Alhaji Adamu Aliyu Jalla expressed doubt that 7, 000 of his party’s faithful have decamped to the opposition PDP.
The APC spokesman explained that had such a number of APC decamped to the opposition PDP, mention could be made of their names, at least names of arrowheads in the cross-carpeting.
Jalla said however that every Nigerian is entitled to his/her own opinion as guaranteed by the provisions of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
“We are not aware that such a significant number of APC members in Bauchi state have decamped to the PDP. We therefore challenged the decampees or their new party to probe the act for citizens to understand their vituperations.
Jalla also debunked the alleged injustice on the part of the APC by the opposition but ruling party in the state, saying such a political maneuver would not take PDP anywhere as they must leave the stage by 2023.
