CITAD Trained Young Women On Digital Leadership Skills

Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has trained twenty-five Young Women drawn from across the country on digital analysis leadership.

Speaking with journalists at the end of the 2-day training held in Command Guest-Inn, Bauchi on Tuesday, the Gender Technical Officer with the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), Zainab Aminu, said that the selected women individuals will be mentored on various leadership skills.

She further stated that participants will also be taught on how to advocate for policy on ICT to revolve around gender inclusion and accessibility, as well as gender policy analysis.

The Gender Technical Officer has other areas of the training to include digital policy architecture in Nigeria,  Feminist Internet Principles, assessing and making effective use of the media, as well as strategies for creating and employing women voices for advocacy.

Zainab Aminu explained that after the training, participants will decide whichever policy they could use for advocacy either individually or collectively, and train other youths to promote movement and enhance policies.

“This is a leadership training that aims to mentor women on how to advocate for policies and policy changes as well as how they can advocate for gender inclusion in ICT policies and also train other youths on skills that enhance policy changes.” 

“The training has many topics that span through many processes such as the policy processes, the advocacy strategies, the key stakeholders for advocacy and awareness methods that the women can use to strengthen their advocacy,” she added.

Also speaking is the Executive Director and Founder for Bloom Innovations, Hannah Kabrang, a participant, said that they were social enterprises that digital literacy among womenfolk, particularly in the Northeast geopolitical zone of the country.

She said that the training was apt as it will help the participants breach the digital gap in gender issues and promote policy advancement in the society.

Sadiya Lawan, a student from Federal University Dutsin-Ma, is one of the training participants who opined that she will learn a lot during the training especially in the areas of digitalization and social media strategy, as she is also confident of stepping the knowledge down to others.

Sadiya said the training will help in addressing issues of digital divide and gaps that exist in gender issues and women in leadership positions as well as educate women on how to use social media as a tool to advocate for policy acceptance.
