Yobe NMA Chairman Abubakar Bows Out, Drums Support For New EXCO

Members of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Yobe state branch have been called upon to accord maximum support to the new EXCO of the association, as well as embrace the spirit of patience in all their dealings. 

The outgoing chairman of the association, Dr. Abubakar Kaumi Malah Gaidam who made the call after the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the association in Yobe on Saturday, appreciated all the members and his EXCO for giving him the enabling environment to govern the association successfully.

Dr. Abubakar Kaumi who described the opportunity as very dear to his heart and a greatest achievement as a doctor, expressed gratitude that the three cardinal points of their campaign have been fulfilled.

“We campaigned on three promises, number one was to engage the government about welfare of doctors, and that we have done and we have put in mechanisms, everything is in the pipeline, we are awaiting the response of the government, they are going to review our hazard allowances, among others”, he said.

According to Dr Kaumi, the second promise they made was to cater for all the doctors’ rooms and doctors Lounge in various facilities which he said has been achieved.

“That, we have done for more than 80 percent of all the healthcare facilities in Yobe. The third cardinal point is to get land so that doctors can retire to their own land, which we have done, it is in the process and we are awaiting the final approval of the government”, he said .

Dr. Gaidam revealed that the DG of Yobe Geographic Information Service has been directed by the government to give them land on which the final issuance of certificate of occupancy is awaited.

“We have also organized one of the best AGM we have ever had in the history of NMA Yobe. I therefore, appealed to the new EXCO to be focused, resolute and firm”, he pointed out.

Dr. Abubakar who noted that, it will not be an easy task for the new EXCO, however, stated that it is achievable if they summon the courage to do it.

He advised the new EXCO to work towards building on the legacies his team have left behind by being diplomatic in their approaches.
