CELEBRATING 40 YEARS OF MASS COMMUNICATION  UNIMAID

The Journalism sector has remained a major area in world that aimed at bringing information about current happening in the society and other governmental activities, it is a proper area to help create a road map for many people as well as discover talents and shore up destinies.

The Journalism sector is significant in its formation because despite any viral pandemic or challenge of a country, it does not stop the necessary participations in bring vital information to the society that require preparations or in events that require conclusions.

Mass Communication department of University of Maiduguri has reached a land mark achievement since its creation in the year 1982 up to date. One of the differences between UNIMAID Mass Communication department from other Universities is that the department specialized in producing quality graduates who are making the department and University of Maiduguri proud globally.

Whether believe it or not UNIMAID Mass Communication department has produced notable Media scholars, journalists, artists who are making it in Nigeria and beyond and portrays the ethics and professionalism of Journalism profession positively. In the past 40 years UNIMAID Mass Communication department remains a hospitable choice for global Journalism. Department of Mass Communication UNIMAID and it’s activities have no doubt placed the country’s terrain as an unavoidable environment best for Journalism practice.

This constituted one of the reasons that every year the best graduating student from the department was chosen to be appointment by Daily Trust and Premium Times newspapers this happened to due to it’s ability of producing quality graduates.

Among the notable Media personnel and elites that the department produced in the past 40 years are Professor Umaru Pate (the Vice Chancellor Federal University Kashere), HRH Nasiru Ado Bayero (the Emir of Bichi), including an erudite scholars who specialized in Journalism and Media studies such as Professor Danjuma Gambo who Specialized in Development Communication, Professor Joseph Wilson who specialized in Multimedia Journalism, Professor Abubakar Mu’azu who specialized in Mass Media and Society, Late Professor Mohammed Gujbawu who specialized in Advertising and Public Relations, Professor Nuhu Diraso Gapsiso who specialized in Printing Media among many others notable Ph.D holders.

In the past 40 years of it’s creation, the department has one radio station that specialized in training students of different level the art of journalism practice known as UNIMAID Radio (Kanem F.M), a photo studio and Television studio that’s why many of it’s graduates specialized in different areas of Journalism and Media Studies.

Our hope, prayers and wishes are with the notable graduates of Mass Communication Department of University of Maiduguri who are grandparents, parents and it’s children to join hand together to establish a well standard Television Station that will help the department of it’s aims and objectives in it’s 40 years of academic excellence by producing quality graduates who can compete within Nigeria and beyond. This will keep our flag flying high among other Universities across Nigeria.
