My administration will revitalize Livestock sector to enhance food security – Bauchi Governor

Bauchi state Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed has announced the commitment of his administration towards revitalizing the Livestock sector in order to boost the economy of the state and enhance food security.
Bala Mohammed made this known when the Presidential Livestock Reform Implementation Committee led by its Co-Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega visited him at the government house Bauchi on Wednesday.
He stated that he is steadfast in his commitment to revitalizing the livestock sector as a strategic effort to bolster the economy of Bauchi.
Bala Mohammed emphasized Bauchi’s unique assets, including vast forests and a peaceful environment, which according to him, can significantly enhance food security and create job opportunities if properly harnessed.
Governor Mohammed disclosed his Government’s plans to establish a state-level committee on Livestock and saddle them with the responsibility of developing a comprehensive blueprint for reforming the sector.
Bala Mohammed while responds to the Presidential committee’s call for the optimal utilization of a federal livestock facility in Sullubawa, Toro Local Government Area of the state, assured them of his administration’s readiness to provide the necessary manpower and resources to ensure effective management of the facility.
He expressed appreciation for the commendation he received from the Co-Chairman of the committee, Prof. Attahiru Jega, who recognized his proactive approach in inviting the committee to Bauchi.
“His insights on stakeholder engagement and the economic potential of the livestock sector further underscore the importance of our shared mission”, the Governor said.
He said that the time is ripe to unlock the untapped potential of the livestock sector which he described as vital, saying Bauchi State will play its part in ensuring sustainable growth and national development.
Governor Mohammed said with Bauchi’s peaceful architecture and large forest, it is suitable to becoming a hub for livestock production and development.
Earlier speaking, the Co-Chairman of the Presidential Livestock Reform Implementation Committee, Prof. Attahiru Jega, enjoined the stakeholders to work together towards reforming the sector.
Prof Jega who acknowledged the significant impact of the livestock sector on national economy, decried that the sector has over the years been neglected by critical actors.
He noted that with the right strategies and support, the livestock sector will become a key driver of economic growth and development in Nigeria.
