Bauchi Govt Confirms 30 New Cases Of Lassa Fever

The Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed has confirmed 30 new cases of Lassa Fever in six local government areas of the state, following a surge of the disease due to the recent harvest of this year’s farming season.
Dr. Rilwanu who confirmed this figure during a press briefing on the present condition of the disease, held at the Emergency Operation Centre, EOC in Bauchi on Yesterday, said local government affected were Bauchi, Bogoro, Ganjuwa, Kirfi, Tafawa Balewa and Toro LGA.
He said, “From January to December this year the state has recorded 153 probable cases, out of which 136 were tested and eight people were confirmed dead of the disease.”
Dr. Mohammed said the state government was taking necessary measures towards ensuring safety of the people, noting that the Agency was waiting for intervention from the state Governor to procure more drugs and injectables to handle the disease.
The Executive Chairman of the agency called on people of the state to ensure personal and environmental hygiene to prevent the spread of Lassa fever and other communicable diseases.
