Bauchi NUJ bye-election: NAN correspondent, Kaigama, three others emerged Vice Chairman, treasurer, fin sec, auditor

The Bauchi State Correspondent of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mal. Ahmed Kaigama has emerged as the newly elected vice Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in the state.

Ahmed Kaigama was inaugurated alongside the treasurer, financial Secretary and auditor of the Bauchi state Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Thursday were returned unopposed in a bye-election.

The vacant positions were created mostly as a result of transfer of members outside the state.

The Chairman of the bye elections committee, Mahmood Ibn Yakubu of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) said during the inauguration that there were only four vacant slots whose contestants returned unopposed in the exercise.

According to him, the positions were vice chairman, treasurer, financial secretary and auditor respectively. 

Ibn Yakubu noted that those who indicated interest in the positions were Ahmed Kaigama of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) as Vice Chairman, Danjuma Sarki Sale from BRC as Treasurer, Salisu Bala Halliru from BATV as Financial Secretary and Ismail Isyaka Wunti from Globe FM Radio Nigeria as Auditor. 

Yakubu explained that the four contestants having satisfy all the elections requirements were elected and returned un-opposed. 

Earlier in his welcome address, the Bauchi State NUJ chairman, Comrade Umar Sa’idu commended the committee for a job well done, well-coordinated and very transparent processes of elections.

Comrade Sa’idu equally commended the Bauchi state governor, Bala Mohammed for giving approval for employment of casual workers in the state-owned media houses to replace those that have retired.

He reiterated the commitment of the Bauchi state council of the union in holding its regular congresses, disclosing that the next congress meeting of the union would hold in the next couple of days.

While performing the swearing-in the new executive members, the National President of the Union, Chief Chris Usiguzo, tasked them to work hard in their new assignments.

Represented by the National Secretary, North East “Zone E”, Alhaji Sulaiman Baba Gimba congratulated the new members on their new posts.

He advised the new members of the executive council to use their wealth of experience towards uplifting and upgrading the union in the State and by extension, Nationally.

The National President commended the State Chairman and other executive members of the council for recording a milestone achievement in the State.

Speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated members, the vice chairman, Ahmed Kaigama thanked expressed thanks to Allah for witnessing the day.

He assured of a new vigour and leadership style from his colleagues towards adding value to the affairs of the union in the state.
