Anxiety in Bauchi APC as suspension of ex-gov M. A Abubakar over anti-party activities backfires

There is anxiety within the Bauchi state Chapter of the All Progressives Congress following the recent suspension of former governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar by the Makama Sarkin Baki ward, Bauchi local government branch of the party over alleged anti party activities.

It can be recall that some group of party youth have during a press conference frown at the former governor for voicing out support to the incumbent Governor Bala Mohammed at a dinner organized by the state government in honor of the former governor for attaining the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

In the process, the Executive committee of All Progressives Congress (APC), Makama Sarkin Baki Ward had announced that it has suspended the former governor from the party.

According to the suspension letter dated 14th December, 2022, the decision was taken unanimously at an emergency meeting held on 14/12/2022 at Makama Sarkin Baki office of the party.

Jointly signed by the ward party chairman and the secretary, Sa’idu Laminu Baban Karatu and Abdullahi Musa Maina respectively, the letter said the reason for the suspension of the former Governor was due to his involvement in Anti-party activities and exhibition of conducts that embarrassed the party with adverse effect to the party by bringing hatred, contempt and ridicule to the party.

“His Excellency held media parlay with the executive governor of Bauchi State on the 8/12/2022 at Government House Bauchi where he
endorsed his candidature under PDP”, the suspension letter alleged.

It further explained that Shortly after the media briefing, the Bauchi State Governor appointed the political associates and allies of M. A. Abubakar into various political offices under the PDP present
administration.

However, things took a new dimension hours after the said suspension, the leadership of the party at the state level upturned the suspension order by the Makama Sarkin Baki ward in a press release signed by its Publicity Secretary, Adamu Aliyu Jallah which was made available to newsmen Friday.

Tagged: “Reversal of the unlawful suspension of His Excellency Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, SAN from All Progressives Congress (APC), the press release dated 15th December, 2022, said that the action of the party officials at the ward level was null and void.

“Take note that the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bauchi State
Chapter under the Chairmanship of Hon. Babayo Aliyu Misau, hereby declare as null and void, the unlawful suspension of His Excellency, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, SAN from the Party”, parts of the release reads.

It added that that, “the
purported decision as contained in the letter of suspension dated
14/12/2022 is hereby reversed and set aside by the State Working
Committee of APC Bauchi State for want of Fair Hearing and for gross violation of disciplinary procedures under Article 21 of the APC Constitution, 2022″.

The state party declared the former governor as an active and valid member of APC and that he shall continue to
partake in all lawful activities of the Party at all levels, until further notice.

In effect, the state party directed that the ‘unlawful decision of the APC Executives of Makama Sarkin Baki Ward of Bauchi LGA should not be given any effect forthwith, adding that further action would be taken by the State Working Committee of the APC, Bauchi State in due course.
