Bauchi commences distribution of 4.4m treated insecticide Mosquito Nets

In order to curb cases of malaria disease, Bauchi state government has purchased 4.4 million insecticide treated mosquito nets to be distributed to residents.
Speaking during the flagging-off ceremony for the distribution exercise, Governor Bala Mohammed of the state, said over 27,000 adhoc staff would be deployed to perform the distribution exercise across the 20 local government areas of the state.
According to him, the state government has procured Seasonal Malaria Chemo Prevention (SMC) for administration on over two million under five children to prevent them from contracting the disease.
Daily Times reports that the exercise is a collaboration between the state government and development partners, including U.S President’s Malaria Initiative, National Malaria Elimination Programme, Against Maleria Foundation as well as Break Through Action Nigeria (BA-N).
Bala Mohammed said his administration is working to increase access to the treated mosquito nets towards reducing the burden of Maleria to guarantee the wellbeing of the citizens.
He assured that the state government is also determined to complement the efforts of the development partners in the fight against Malaria through increasing budgetary allocation in the health sector from 13-17 percent.
The distribution exercise which is to commence from 21th to 30th of June, 2023 is expected to be implemented across the twenty Local Government Areas of the State in batches.
The Representative of the Nigeria Mission Director, USAID Kola Saniyi who spoke on behalf of the donor agencies expressed satisfaction with commitment of the state government.
While describing the effects of Malaria on the lives of people as devastating, Kola Saniyi urged the households to take advantage of the exercise to enhance their health status.
