BY KHALID IDRIS DOYA, Bauchi
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Messrs Architectonic LTD, Mr. Reuben Okoya, contractor that handled the building of New Governor’s Office Complex Government House Bauchi has expressed confidence that the state government would shoulder the maintenance of the edifice for the next 50 years.
The contractor who debunked the gossippers claims that the edifice is a white-elephant project, said it is a monumental and historic project that would take Bauchi state and it’s people to higher pedestals of infrastructural development.
Mr Reuben Okoya who was speaking while handing over the completed new governor’s office, recalled that his company deligently worked for three consecutive years to make the project a reality.
He commended Governor Bala Mohammed for started such a gigantic project and competing it within a reasonable period of time despite paucity of funds in the coffers of the givernorment.
He congratulated the government and people of Bauchi state for having such an infrastructural facility that is envy of any state in the federation, saying more edifices are accompanying this projects, such as staff houses and clinic, among others.
Receiving the keys to the offices, the state commissioner of housing and environment, Rt. Hon. Danlami Ahmed Kawule said the new Modern Governor’s Office Complex with a futuristic design, comprises of Sixty-One (61) offices as against the Twenty-Three (23) offices in the previous Governor’s Office.
“It also has Eleven (11) Chambers for Meetings including Exco Chamber as against the two (2) Chambers in the previous office building. It is therefore my firm belief that the New Office Complex will enhance and ensure a conducive working environment to the Governor and his Supporting Staff in discharging their official duties”, the.commissioner said.
The commissioner expressed dismay that past administrations in the State were short of vision and the foresight to have allowed and used the previous Governor’s Office which looked like a Classroom Building partitioned into offices, saying the former Office Building lacked the necessary conducive atmosphere and the aesthetics to be No. 1 Office Building housing the Governor in the State.
Kawule commended the administration of Governor Bala Mohammed for ensuring an excellent and prudent resource management and utilization especially in this era of hyper-inflation, to ensure that he delivers people’s oriented projects including the New Governor’s Office Complex which his Ministry is today taking over from the Contractor.
“Similarly, scheduled for Handing Over by another Contractor, is the Contract for Furnishing, Panelling and Installation of Equipment at the New Governor’s Office Complex by a Contractor Messrs Cascara Oil & Gas Nigeria Limited.
“He has also successfully completed his Contract and to be handed over today along side the New Office Building. The Furniture Contractor who also worked within the Contractual terms, has delivered a World Class furniture for the Governor’s Office Complex. These Contractors, deserve round of applause from us for a job well done,” Kawule added.
