Bauchi state Governor, Bala Mohammed has on Saturday Flagged-off the distribution of empowerment packages worth N150 million in Kirfi and Alkaleri local government areas of the state.

Bala while speaking at the two LGs, said that the gesture was in fulfilment of part of his campaign promises which include the empowerment of women and youth to become economically independent.

According to Governor Bala, the gesture under the Kaura Economic Empowerment (KEEP) programme was meant to fulfil the promises of his administration in alleviating poverty among citizens, especially youth and women.

Bala who appreciated the stakeholders of Alkaleri and Kirfi for supporting his administration, assured them that his government will continue to do more to them.

In Kirfi local government area, the Governor received hundreds of supporters of former All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, Hon. Faruk Mustapha who decamped to the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The decampees who denounced their membership of the APC declared their total support and loyalty to governor Bala Mohammed’s second term bid.

The Governor promised to construct the dilapidated Cheledi-Dukki-Abba-Gombe road if re-elected in 2023.

He expressed regret that despite the assurances of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) to rehabilitate the road during an assessment visit in 2021, nothing has been done to date.

It can be recalled that a portion of the road was cut off during a downpour that resulted to flooding which further compounded the sufferings of residents and commuters around the affected area.

Bala expressed displeasure over the failure of NEDC to fulfill its promise of constructing the road that links Bauchi and Gombe.

He said the condition of the road has brought untold hardships to the people of Bauchi and Gombe States.

However, the governor promised to if re-elected in 2022, construct the road to ease the sufferings of commuters and boost the economic activities of the people of the area.
