Bauchi Govt collaborates FG to promote Gender, Social Justice in workplace

The Bauchi State government has announced its commitment to partner the federal government in the area of promoting gender and social justice in the workplace in-line with global best practices.

The State Head of service, Alhaji Yahuza Adamu made this assertion recently in Bauchi during activities to mark World Day for Safety and Health at Work organised by the occupational safety and health department of the Federal ministry of Labour and Employment.

He said the State government was fully aware of the health effect of climate change and its negative impact on women of child bearing age hence the need to synergize with the federal authority to address these challenges.

Alhaji Yahuza Adamu who urged the Bauchi zonal office of the Federal ministry to work out plans to step down the training in ministries, departments and agencies, decried the absence of representatives of the MDA and the private of sector at the occasion, promising that this will be addressed soon.

In a paper titled “health effects of climate change and its impact on the workplace”, Mr David Numshi Musa, listed some of the primary health impacts to include; heat stress, heat stroke, heat exhaustion, heat cramps and rashes as well as Cardiovascular and chronic kidney diseases.

Mr David who is the Head of department occupational safety and health, Federal ministry of labour and employment Bauchi, also enumerated workers at high risk of ultraviolet radiation to include outdoor workers involved in construction, agriculture, power utility, gardening, dock and postal workers, urging employees to empathise and prioritise their needs for safety.

Earlier speaking, the state controller of labour, Mallam Aliyu Mohammed Mahdi regretted that despite the importance of the seminar papers to the wellbeing of workers in both the public and private sectors, majority of the invited participants failed to turn up.

He stated that the issue of the impact of climate and environmental factors on workers’ performance in work places must be accorded utmost priority.
