CP Musa pledges adequate security for Bauchi Varsity, increased police presence

The Bauchi State Police Commissioner, Auwal Muhammad Musa has pledged to increase police presence around the Sa’adu Zungur university (SAZU) to provide safer atmosphere for learning.

CP Musa who stated this when he received the Vice Chancellor of the university in his office on Thursday, Professor Fatima Tahir, maintained that the police will explore the possibility of adding more patrol vehicles for enhanced night patrols.

The police commissioner who commended the vice Chancellor’s leadership and responsibility, also promised continued synergy with the university.

He assured a comprehensive review of security issues raised by the vice Chancellor towards provision of a lasting solution.

According to him, the effort move will ensure a safe and secure learning environment for students of Sa’adu Zungur University.

Earlier speaking, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Fatima Tahir, solicited for a partnership with the Bauchi State Police Command to address security challenges that may arise in the university’s main campus in Gadau and that of Yuli.

Professor Fatima expressed concerns over the safety of students, particularly those residing outside the campuses due to inadequate hostel facilities.

The vice Chancellor disclosed that major concern of the university management is for the students that are in Yuli Campus as well as in Gadau.

Professor Fatima while stressing that the hostel in Gadau campus is inadequate, noted that majority of the students are staying inside Gadau town.

“Here in Bauchi, there is no single hostel. One hundred percent of the students in Yuli Campus are staying outside the school hostel, either those that are living with their parents or relatives in town”, she said.

Professor Fatima said as a result of that, the students are exposed to very serious security threats.

The VC who regretted that most at times students are attacked and robbed of their properties, expressed the need for enhanced security measures to protect them from exposure to security threats.

Professor Fatima who commended the police outpost in Gadau for their support and cooperation, also requested for an organized program to boost security and safety on both campuses.

She suggested a collaborative effort between the police and the university’s internal security to ensure effective protection.

Professor Tahir also demanded a security outpost in Yuli village to enhance security for students and the entire community, as well as intermittent patrols to deter criminal elements.
