Don’t Misuse Social Media Platforms, Sheikh Guruntum Warns Youths, Women

A Renowned Bauchi Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani Yusuf Guruntum has emphatically cautioned youths and women against misuse of the social media platforms which often leads to misinformation and breach of peace.

Islamic Cleric Guruntum gave the warning during a weekly lecture in Bauchi tagged ‘Misuse of the social media by youths and women.’

He described as unfortunate and saddening the manner in which youths and women used social media platforms to watch and post unnecessary things to the public without remorse.

Guruntum explained that social media platforms are basically meant to accelerate development, now that the world has been reduced to a mere global village.

He advised Muslim youths and women to use the social media platforms to propagate Islamic knowledge rather than posting immoral things which, he said, they would be accounted for in the hereafter.

Guruntum, while quoting verses from the Holy Quran and the Prophetic Hadith, said that such abuses and unguarded comments by the social media users could bring about disunity and misunderstanding among people.

The cleric, while saying that Islam emphasized morality and abhorred indiscipline, stressed the need for those in such habit to desist from it for their own good and the humanity.

He noted with concern that youths and women spend almost 24 hours of their time on internet access facilities like phone and computer sets accessing Facebook, Tik Tok, and WhatsApp without necessarily considering their Islamic books.
